ANAVEX 1007
Anavex’s lead candidate for the treatment of prostate cancer

Mode of action: ANAVEX 1007 is designed to modulate sigma-1 and sigma-2 receptors, controlling voltage-gated sodium channels and volume-regulating channels, and also antagonizing M3 muscarinic receptors.

Results to date: in advanced preclinical studies (in vivo xenograft models), ANAVEX 1007 revealed anti-tumor potential within acceptable toxicity levels. The compound showed very encouraging results in prostate and neuropathic pain in vivo studies where it demonstrated anti-proliferative, anti-metastatic and tumour-growth inhibiting action.

Moving forward: additional preclinical in vivo studies are currently underway, using immune-deficient mouse models to further assess ANAVEX 1007 and its related derivates for various types of cancers. Pharmacokinetic and bioavailability studies are also underway.
